Arlen Specter Reveals His True Colors
Amy Frederick Withdraws Her Candidacy for the 52nd House of Delegates District
![]()
April 28, 2009
Dear Friends:
Since first beginning to explore the possibility of campaigning to represent the people of the 52nd District in the House of Delegates, I have been humbled by the support and encouragement I received from across eastern Prince William county, and indeed, beyond. Having been honored to stand by Jeff’s side for the past six years as he has served, I’ve had the opportunity to meet and get to know many of the people of this district. They have made this job a rewarding experience for both of us, and the lasting friendships will always remain.
Today, it is with mixed emotions that I announce my withdrawal from the race to succeed Jeff in the House of Delegates.
Unfortunately, some in the leadership of the Republican Party have demonstrated a greater interest in playing politics than in advancing our conservative principles and making life better for the families and the citizens of Virginia. I’m not interested in running for office to serve under broken leadership, where the Speaker compromises principle for what he perceives as immediate political gain. What so many entrusted with leadership in our party fail to recognize is that ignoring our core principles in pursuit of titles and power without purpose is exactly the behavior that severely reduced our ranks in the House, handed the Senate to the Democrats, and has resulted in one statewide loss after another.
Although my campaign ends today, it has been a pleasure to travel around the district and introduce myself as a potential candidate to so many wonderful people.
I want to first thank my friends and family for supporting me and encouraging me to run. I also want to thank Kris Morris and my supporters, who have spent hours volunteering on my behalf. To these people, I will remain forever grateful.
I’m excited about the future, and I will be working hard to make sure that people of principle who share Jeff’s and my commitment to service are elected and re-elected this year. I’m confident that in years to come, our party will have new leadership and a new direction, which will bode well for fresh, new ideas — and ultimately, handing our children a better Commonwealth than the one we inherited.
Most sincerely,
Amy Frederick
Americans for Prosperity Takes the Save My Ballot Tour to Hampton Roads
Over 150 activists, small business owners, and workers gathered in Chesapeake on Saturday to demonstrate their support for the Secret Ballot on the South Hampton Roads stop of the Save My Ballot Tour. "Today showed that Virginians are not going to sit by quietly and let union bosses rob workers of that most sacred right, the right to a secret ballot election." –AFP Virginia Director Ben Marchi.
Americans for Prosperity has been leading the charge in Virginia to protect the secret ballot and prevent the enactment of the so-called Employee Free Choice ACT (HR 1409, S.560) also known as the Card Check legislation. If enacted, the Card Check legislation would take away nearly all union organizing elections. Also, it would force many companies and their employees to enter into binding arbitration hearings determining contracts. In short, government bureaucrats would wind up telling businesses how to operate without any recourse on the part of the business owner or the employee.
Virginia Beach City Councilady Rosemary Wilson supports the right to the secret ballot. “The right to a secret ballot is the bedrock of our Democracy. It is my pleasure to be standing here with these honored guests and the workers of South Hampton Roads to support this sacred right. No one in this great nation of ours should be forced to vote while facing public intimidation and pressure. We are here today to send a message to Senators Warner and Webb that the workers and voters of South Hampton Roads support the right to a secret ballot, and encourage them to vote against the so-called Employee Free Choice Act.”
In addition to Event MC Rosemary Wilson, AFP State Director Ben Marchi, Delegate John Cosgrove, R-78th, and Tito the Builder spoke in support of worker’s and business owner’s rights.
There were also about 3 Anti-Secret Ballot protestors standing outside the event, but they mainly held signs and were relatively quiet.
The Employee Free Choice ACT is still being debated in the Congress.

Stimulating the Economy or Just Motivated Spenders?
by Christopher George
The proposed stimulus package which has been regarded to fillip our economy is facing resistance in the Senate by Senate Republicans. Senator John McCain, R-Az, has said as the bill presently stands he would not vote on it.
The stimulus package includes deplorable projects that Republicans find to be ineffective in boosting our economy and producing new jobs. After an unbalanced vote in the House of 244-188, the bipartisanship Obama was hoping for quickly faded.

Attorney General Bob McDonnell Comments on Lee-Jackson Day
“Today, the Commonwealth of Virginia pauses to remember two great Virginians, Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson.Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson were men of honor, duty, faith and humility. Today, they are remembered foremost for their leadership on the battlefield. They served our nation, and when duty called, our Commonwealth, with courage and valor.
However, the legacies of Lee and Jackson extend beyond the battlefield. They are found in Lexington, where Lee taught his students after the War to be Americans again, and to pursue lives of honor and obligation, and where Jackson taught future heroes at Virginia Military Institute. Both men set personal examples that continue to be remembered to this day.
As Virginians we share a long, and sometimes difficult, history. In that history, Virginia has produced many great men and women. The lives of Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson remain worthy of study and commemoration.”
Secretary of State Clinton Unconstitutional?
by Angela Riddle
Is it unconstitutional for Hillary Clinton to become Secretary of State? According to Article I Section IV she is precluded from being appointed to any civil office. “No Senator or Representative shall, during the time for which he was elected, be appointed to any civil office under the authority of the United States, which shall have been created, or the emoluments whereof shall have been increased during such time: and no person holding any office under the United States, shall be a member of either House during his continuance in office.”
Abortion of Common Sense in 2008
by Angela Riddle
This past presidential election seems to have left many trying to appease their conscious. The largest group seems to be prolifers who voted for Obama. These people tended to declare themselves prolife and yet in the same sentence managed to say that politics, especially this election would not really affect that issue. Their reasoning was, we had a Republican president for eight years and still have abortion.
Analyzing the Straw Poll by Tim Johnson
Before beginning this post I feel that in the spirit of full disclosure and honesty, you all should know that I helped the Cuccinelli Campaign collect petitions and that at various times, the only names ever on my petitions were McDonnell, Bolling, Cuccinelli, and for fewer of them, also Brownlee and Foster.
The common feeling that Ken Cuccinelli cemented his favorite status for the AG nomination by winning the AG Straw Poll at the Advance may be a false presumption. In a recent email Cuccinelli sent to supporters, he makes the following comments...
AFP and its State Director are leading the charge for open and honest accountability in the House of Delegates:
In an articlein the Virginian Pilot, Julian Walker writes:
Republican activists are pushing party leaders to abolish a rule that allows members of the House of Delegates to defeat bills without leaving any record of how they voted.
Under House rules, when legislators take action on bills in subcommittees, no votes are recorded. The practice has been used by both Democratic and Republican lawmakers over the years to kill bills without a leaving a voting trail.
Leading the effort to change the rule is the group Americans for Prosperity.
The Washington Post also highlights the effort:
Ben Marchi, state director for Americans for Prosperity, an anti-tax group, delivered a petition of more than 300 signatures to House GOP leaders this morning calling on them to record all subcommittee votes. Marchi, who said the signatures were gathered at the recent GOP retreat at The Homestead resort, called it a “transparency issue” so taxpayers know how their money is being spent.
“It is not a partisan issue,” Marchi said. “It’s a good government issue and government operates best when it operates openly.”

Sources within RPV as well as the different AG campaigns report that Cuccinelli wins the RPV Advance Strawpoll. The results are as follows:
Cuccinelli, 47.8%The Aftermath of Hurricane Bush: Part 1, by Kyle Dodd
The elections are over, the campaign signs are coming down, the transition teams are coming into place, and the Bush era is coming to an end. The man who has spent the past 8 years redefining the “Conservative” movement will soon leave office, and the aftermath of his hurricane force politics are now becoming visible.
Hampton Roads GOP sits down with Lt. Governor Bill Bolling!
Monday, November 24th was a rainy day in Hampton Roads. The Republican Professionals Network hosted what was probably the first real political event in the area for the 2009 election cycle. It was well attended. 2008’s results held much in common with the day, foggy and rainy. But 2009 is around the corner, and today, Lt. Governor Bill Bolling gives us reason to be optimistic, a ray of sunshine popping through the clouds.
Martin Luther King Was a Republican!
An article written by Frances Rice on the website of the National Black Republican Association argues that MLK was a Republican.
She writes:
It should come as no surprise that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican. Why? It was the Democrats who Dr. King was fighting, and he would not have joined the Democratic Party, the party of segregation and the Ku Klux Klan.
The fact that Dr. King was a Republican is affirmed by Dr. King’s niece, Dr. Alveda C. King, in an article and video posted on the website of the National Black Republican Association at www.NBRA.info. To gain a better understanding about why Dr. King was a Republican, we need to take a walk through history.
